FIREMED PROGRAM 

Ambulance Program Terms of Agreement 

Proudly Serving the Winston Dillard Ambulance Service Area 

The FireMed Ambulance Membership Program is a voluntary service available to the residents of Douglas County. FireMed members receive emergency ambulance care and transportation within the service area covered by CDFR and also through reciprocal agreements with other agency areas of Oregon. 

Emergency ambulance membership begins three business days after acceptance of completed application form and payment. MEMBERSHIP EXTENDS TO JUNE 30. 

FIREMED IS NOT AN INSURANCE PLAN but will provide ambulance service. The FireMed membership includes all individuals listed on the membership application form who are living as a permanent resident of the same single-occupancy, within CDFR Authority service area. 

FireMed members received Medical Necessary emergency ambulance transport within the service areas. Inter-Facility transfers from one hospital to another will not be covered under this FireMed Agreement. 

Medical aid calls will not be covered under this FireMed Agreement. If a patient receives medication by IV or mouth there will be a charge of $300.00. 

The Board of Directors hereby adopts a Lift/Public Assist Policy. (2.1 Cost Recovery Fees) Lift/Public Assist Fee is $50.00. No fee shall be imposed for the first (2) lift/public assist requested from current FireMed subscribers living inside CDFR Authority. FireMed subscribers that live outside of CDFR Authority may be subject to a Lift/Public Assist fee with the first request. 

DEFINITION OF “EMERGENCY” 

The term “emergency” means a service provided after the sudden onset of a medical condition manifesting itself by acute symptoms of such severity (including severe pain) that the absence of immediate medical attention could reasonable be expected to result in placing the patient’s health in jeopardy, serious impairment to bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part. 

DEFINITION OF “MEDICALLY NECESSARY” 

Medical necessity for the service is established when a patient’s condition is such that use of any other means of transportation, other than ambulance, would further endanger the patient’s health or condition.

AMBULANCE TRANSPORTS MAY NOT BE COVERED BY FIREMED 

  1. If EMS Personnel advised you your medical condition is not Medically Necessary to go by 911 ambulance. 
  2. If you are transported by 911 ambulance and taken to TRIAGE at Mercy Medical Center. 
  3. If you are INSISTING to go to the ER for NON-LIFE-THREATENING ISSUES, Vitals are normal, and you don’t have any other means of transportation.
